Dropped after the 1980-1981 season, 1958 Ohio Athletic Conference Championship Akron Zips at one time provided a Division II home for the immense high school talent of Ohio to compete at.  Today we look at some of their best wrestlers.

One of the best wrestlers in Zip history, Pete Guthrie finished in third place at the 1965 NCAA Division II tournament.

Dan McGrath
A military engineer today, Dan McGrath had an outstanding senior season for the Zips winning a conference title & taking sixth place honors at the 1971 NCAA Division II tournament.

Undisputed, the best wrestler in Zip history, Greg Kesserling finished out his last two seasons at Akron as a two time conference champion & a two time All American.  At the Division II tournament he finished third in 1974 and sixth in 1975.

Another Zip to have an outstanding senior season, Mike Turnbull placed fourth at the 1974 NCAA Division II tournament.  We sadly lost Turnbull in 2013.

David Brubach
Although never an NCAA qualifier, the late David Brubach had a passion and enthusiasm for the sport of wrestling to where the athletic director of Akron North high school asked him to help start a wrestling program at his school.  Brubach lead the team to a dual record of 135-41-4.  He then moved on to Massillon Jackson High School where he took the team to a dual record of 93-40-1.
