JT1Wrestle Takes A Look at Williams 2026-2027

 

Over the years I've talked a lot about how sometimes what a program needs is one wrestler to come in & show the world that "it can happen here."  Do I dare give all the credit to Peter Kane? 100% may not be fair, but I think he deserves something.  In 2023-2024, which wasn't all that long ago, the Ephs went 3-15 on the season.  This past year, they finished 2nd at Regional I & 9th in the D3 nation.  Peter Kane brought recognition & prestige to Williams wrestling. He was Eph'in good & because of him & the example he set, the whole team started getting Eph'in good. 

How good was Peter Kane? 

7th-2nd-5th-1st in the D3 nation.  The second four-time All American in school history & the Ephs' first national champion.  3rd-2nd-1st-1st at Regional I & 133 career wins.  I'm not dare forgetting some of the other legends in Williams wrestling history, but Peter Kane as special & I think he set a precedence that cannot be denied. 

Caleb Seyfried also had one heck of an awesome career for the white, purple & gold.  5th-4th-2nd at Regional I, he finished of his career with an 8th place finish in the D3 nation.

Heading into 2026-2027?  Williams is looking Eph'in good.

Jamie Evarts isn't planning on letting Peter Kane's name stand alone on the list of Williams national champions.  The two-time Regional I champion, who was 3rd in the D3 nation a year ago will be gunning for gold himself this season.  34-4 on the year last year.

The Colonels return three of their five Regional II place-winners from last year. 

We say goodbye to Jaryn Hartranft who had an outstanding career for Wilkes.  5th-2nd-4th-3rd, he was a two-time NCAA D3 qualifier.  104 career wins, he took 4th at this year's Pete Willson. 

Trevor Gitski, who was also a member of Wilkes Football team, finished off his wrestling career with a 5th place showing at Regional II.

21 wins on the season, Gus Smith was 6th at Regional II & 3rd at the Blue Jay Classic.

One match shy of qualifying for the NCAA D3 championships, Ashton Romberger took 8th at Pete Willson & 3rd at the Blue Jay Classic.

JT1Wrestle Takes A Look at Westminster 2026-2027

 

There have been a lot of Blue Jays over the years that have impressed me.  Recently graduated Mike Roberts was one of them.  4th-6th-8th-6th at Regional VI, he had 83 career wins during his time at Westminster. I don't know the exact number, but most of those wins were via fall.  The guy had a style I much appreciated as a wrestling fan.  He always went for broke.  If you were wrestling Mike Roberts, then you knew his goal was to pin you.  

Anxious to see who the next standout Blue Jay will be.

Lots of factors/variables that determine whether I'm there to just sit, cheer & watch Or if I'm there to do some actual work.

The Cardinals do lose a couple of really good talents from last season. 

Hayden Myers had an outstanding career for the black & cardinal.  A two-time NCAA D3 qualifier, he earned All-American honors of 5th this season. Went 4th-3rd-1st in his final Regional I tournaments. 

Ike Guttenberg finished off his career one match shy of being an NCAA D3 qualifier.  Was also 6th at Regional I in 2025.

With Myers now graduated, Wesleyan will be looking for someone to step it up & be the new star of the team.  I believe that someone can be Chris Hong.  23 wins on the season, he was 5th at Regional I last year.  Won the R.I.T. invitational, making the finals of Roger Williams, Don Parker & Will Abele.

My heart absolutely breaks that we aren't going to get the opportunity to see Jessie Orbin compete in his final season as a Yellow Jacket. We lost the outstanding talent due to an unfortunate accident.  5th & 7th in Regional IV, he was 28-3 on the year.  Won titles at Jeff Breese, John Summa, & the Presidents Athletic Conference.

JT1Wrestle Takes A Look at Wartburg 2026-2027

 

The legend of Wartburg Knights wrestling began in 1993 when the Knights took 2nd place at the NCAA Division III championships. It's been 33 years, and since that time Wartburg has finished 6th in 1995, 2001 & 2019.  3rd in 2010.  Other than that, it's been either 1st or 2nd.  You're reading that correctly.  Over a period of 33 years, in 29 of those seasons Wartburg has brought home either a gold team trophy or a silver team trophy.  17 team titles, more than any other team in NCAA Division III. 

The legacy continues. 

The 2017 team champs not only crowned all 10 Regional place-winners, they put 7 of the 10 in the Regional VI finals and qualified all but one.  Of the 9 qualifiers, 7 earned D3 All-American status.  The record stands at 17, but give it 9 months & it could very well be 18. 

Let's take a look at what the black & orange loses this season & then take a look at what they're bringing back. 

Charlie Dojan, what a standout career this young man had.  Like all who have put on a Knight's singlet, I'm sure that coming up short of gold probably eats away at him, but capturing two NCAA D3 bronze medals during a career is still one Hell of a statement. 

Kasey Ross, what a privilege it was to watch this young man during his career.  A three-time Regional VI champion, who gained a lot of confidence when he took 5th as a junior in 2025.  Went undefeated in his final season, winning a D3 title with absolute dominance. 

Mitch Williamson had a fantastic career for the Knights.  2nd-3rd-1st at Regional VI, won an NCAA D3 title as a junior & finished 2nd as a senior. 

Although he wasn't a starter this season, have to point out how good Anthony Ulaszek was.  20-3 on the year, he stuck an All-Americans in under a minute! Pinned Rhenzo Augusto in only 29 seconds!

The 2026 NCAA D3 All American (7th) heads into 2026-2027 with 2nd & 1st place finishes thus far in Regional VI.  20 wins on the year, he was 4th at Concordia-Wisconsin.

We can't help who we're related to. I have an aunt that is a hypocritical, religious bigot. I'm glad it's not held against me that we're related.  As we take a look one of the oldest wrestling programs in the country, we lose half of the Regional IV place-winners & we return half of the Regional IV place-winners. Still should be a good year for the Generals, as we have a lot of D3 qualifier material & All-American hopefuls. 

Gone are...

Two-time NCAA D3 qualifier Vince Ziccardi.  76 career wins, was 3rd & 2nd at Regional IV.  Won the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC). 

Four-time Regional IV place-winner/three-time NCAA D3 qualifier Evan Lindner.  7th-2nd-3rd-3rd at Regional IV.  Went 2nd-1st-1st-1st at the ODAC. 97 career wins.

Four-time Regional IV place-winner Mark Troni who was an NCAA D3 qualifier in 2025.  Went 7th-5th-3rd-4th.  Was 2nd-1st-1st-2nd at the ODAC. 80 career wins. 

John Santowski, finished off his career twice being one match shy of NCAA D3 qualification.  78 career wins and made the ODAC finals.

Tony Urso did not compete in '25-'26, but the year prior he won 26 matches & will be a valuable asset to the Generals this season.

Felt bad for Carter Stack last season.  Was probably on his way towards being an All-American, when he got hurt & had to medical forfeit out of the tournament. Nonetheless, will be a very strong contender for AA honors this year.  27-1 he won Regional IV, New Standard & ODAC.

If Indiana is a basketball state, they sure forget to let the people at Wabash know it.  2025-2026 was a great year for Little Giants wrestling & by the looks of things, 2026-2027 is going to be as well. 

We do lose James Day, that is one of the cons heading into this season.  One of the best Little Giants of all time, I'd have to conclude he's one of the best in NCAA D3 to end his career without winning a national title.  100 career wins, he finished 3rd-4th-2nd in the D3 nation.  2nd-3rd-3rd-1st at Regional V. 

We also lose Andrew Ross who was 5th at Regional V.
