I'm not trying to fool anyone here. The first days of a dynasty being built are happening before our very eyes, and the #4 Oklahoma State Cowboys are going to walk out of this dual against the U.R. Utah Valley Wolverines with a victory. With that said, I still think we will see some good things out of the white & green this meet.
#6 Troy Spratley Vs U.R. Bridger Ricks 125 |
Troy Spratley finished R12 at DI's two toughest tournaments last season. CKLV & the NCAA championships. He's looking to earn medals at both this season & in doing so will be looking to rack up some vital W's. I think despite being unseeded Bridger Ricks will be a good early test for him. Ricks, an NJCAA runner-up last year for Western Wyoming, is still looking for that really huge victory as a Wolverine. An upset over Spratley would certainly do the trick. What a win it'd be for the up and on the rise program too.
U.R. Reece Witcraft Vs U.R. Kase Mauger 133 |
These unranked Vs unranked matches can often times be some of my favorites of a dual. They give wrestlers an opportunity to come through for their teams and they help to showcase the importance and excitement of a dual. Oklahoma State is projectably an NCAA team trophy caliber team. Any and ever win that Utah Valley can pick up, is vital. With that said, looking at this match individually, Reece Witcraft is a team player if the Cowboys have ever had one. In and out of the lineup, he has made sacrifices and been their for the Orange and Black whenever he's been called upon. This dual will be no different. Just needs to make sure that the U.R. next to Mauger's name doesn't fool him. Despite being inconsistent, Mauger does have an on switch. When it's flipped, he's tough.
#14 Tagen Jamison Vs #26 Haiden Drury 141 |
The last time these two met, it was a one-sided 10-0 major decision for Jamison. Here's the thing though. Drury has two speeds. He can be downright tough when he wants to be too. Am I predicting turning a lopsided 10-0 loss into a win? Not necessarily, but I do think he can keep it to a decision this time. A much closer decision. Take nothing away from Jamison. I wouldn't completely rule out another major either, but I predict a decision.
#5 Cam Amine Vs #6 Terrell Barraclough 165 |
These are the kind of matches that make a guy like me love the sport of wrestling. The matches where both wrestlers have a chip on their shoulder, something to prove and they're ready to go out and go to war to get what it is that they want. If the red corner....we have Cam Amine, a wrestler who went into last year's NCAA DI championships looking to become a four time All American. 7th-4th-4th & the unthinkable happens. He comes up short of that fourth medal. You know good and well that's haunted him the past 8 months & he's bound and determined to take it out on everyone who dares to step on the mat against him. In the blue corner...we have Terrell Barraclough. A standout wrestler who unfortunately got lost among the mix of unreal talent at Penn State. He's now at Utah Valley making a name for himself match after match. He knocked off All American Hunter Garvin & then took it to a talented Bubba Wilson. Now he wants a piece of three time AA Amine. This is going to be a good one. This is going to be a really good one.
