Sampson Wilkins               Josh Negron

Castleton has been very well represented at 184 lbs the past few seasons & '24-'25 will be no different.  Two time NCAA qualifier Sampson Wilkins enters the year having won the Northeast Regional (3rd in '23) and having placed 4th in the D3 nation.  An NCAA DIII title contender in his own right, he defeated DeVivo 7-6, among 38 other wins.  A champion at Roger Williams, he was the runner-up at Ithaca.

Backing Wilkins up in the lineup, will be a very tough Josh Negron.  21 wins on the season, he stuck Austen Wetzel at the 2:29 mark.  He's been 5th & 4th at Roger Williams himself.

The two time Central Regional champion, who has been 6th & 7th in the D3 nation entered the NCAA DIII championships last year with a record of 23-0.  Unfortunately, he had a disappointing tournament and ended up going 0-2.  He will look to redeem himself & reclaim his All American status this season.

Kasey Ross                Matt Rogge
Wartburg

Wartburg with two NCAA DIII qualifier/D3 All American candidates at the same weight class, imagine that? With a name that sounds like he ought to be starring opposite Vin Diesel in an action film, Vincenzo Corvetto, was 8th at Pete Willson & 7th at the Southeast Regional. A 6-3 decision over All American Max Borton, he also defeated Tyler Withers 9-2.

Jack McCusker

Joe Tully

Who's Who of D3 Collegiate Wrestling: Top Returnees 174 lbs for 2024-2025

          Jared Stricker          Preston Carlisle
   UW-Eau Claire

40-2 on the season last year, with both losses coming to DI opponents, Jared Stricker won his 100th match, winning the NCAA DIII title.  Also a D3 runner-up in 2023, Stricker enters the '24-'25 season 3rd-1st-1st within the Upper Midwest Regional and a two time Pete Willson champion. If that's not enough for the long list of accomplishments Stricker has had thus far in his career, add in that he won the WIAC last year as well.

Backing him up in the lineup will be a tough Preston Carlisle, who among 17 wins last season, took 3rd at the WIAC.

Zeb Gnida
Loras

A great season for Zeb Gnida last year who on a 25-4 record, won the Lower Midwest Regional & finished 3rd in the D3 nation.

Dejon Glaster
Millikin

Huge improvements for Dejon Glaster between '22-'23 & '23-'24.  8th in the Lower Midwest Regional in 2023, Dejon Glaster earned a 3rd place finish last year & then went on to earn 6th place All American honors in the D3 nation.  Also a Coe Invitational champion, Glaster won 27 matches in total.

Seth Goetzinger           Carter Sorenson

Seth Goetzinger enters the 2024-2025 season a two time All American with back to back 7th place finishes in the D3 nation.  3rd and 2nd in the Upper Midwest Regional the past two seasons, he won titles at both Augsburg & North Central, taking runner-up honors at Luther.  He'll be backed up by a tough Carter Sorenson who was 3rd at Augsburg on a 16-5 record.

Khalil Mitchell

Blake Williams
Adrian

Blake Williams competed at 184 lbs up until mid January when he moved down to 174. It paid off in a big way, as the Bulldog earned runner-up status at the Central Regional & NCAA DIII qualification.

Carter Lloyd                  Joey Petrella
Baldwin Wallace

Ironically enough, Carter Lloyd is another wrestler who moved down to 174 lbs after spending some of the season at 184.  He moved down in February to be exact, winning a total of 31 matches on the season.  3rd at the Central Regional, earning NCAA DIII qualification, he had a 14-5 major decision over R12'er Aiden Ashburn.

I believe that Joey Petrella may have another year of eligibility as well.  I'm not sure, based on the fact that I'm not sure if he had a COVID-19 at Gannon, or if he still has one still remaining at Baldwin Wallace.  If indeed he does have more time left on the clock, he'll most certainly challenge Lloyd for the starting position. 18-4 on the year, Petrella was 3rd at the North Central Invitational, placing 4th at Ithaca.  Among his wins a 4-0 decision over All American Dejon Glaster, a 15-0 technical fall over Christian Komitas & both a 1-0 as well as a 5-2 decision over Eddie Simes.

L.J. Richardson
Coe

A 6th place D3 All American in 2023, with a 2nd place finish at the Lower Midwest Regional, L.J. Richardson came up a little short of another qualification last season, when he finished 4th at the Regional.  19 wins on the season, he earned runner-up status at both the Coe Invitational & the North Central Invitational last year.

Eddie Simes                                 Leo Draveling                         Camren Dennee

    UW-La Crosse

The Eagles have some real good talent here at 174 lbs.  Eddie Simes won 25 matches last year as a freshman, finishing one match shy of NCAA DIII qualification as he took 4th at the Upper Midwest Regional.  He was also 4th at the North Central Invitational.

Leo Draveling, a senior went 12-5 last season, making the finals of Pete Willson.  He had a 10-8 decision over Payton Geiger & a 4:26 fall over Ryan Riser.

Fellow sophomore Damren Dennee won 21 matches last season. One of which was a 6-5 decision over Simes.

Will be a good triple threat for the varsity position.

Sean Cowan          Anthony Cerulli
Ursinus

37 wins in his rookie season for the Sean Cowan last year.  4th in the Mideast Regional he was a match shy of NCAA DIII qualification.  He also made the finals of the Messiah Open.  Anthony Cerulli is another tough 174 lbs'er for the Bears.  19-5 on the season, made the Citrus Invitational finals.

Adam Frost
Trinity

Adam Frost enters the '24-'25 season having posted 8th & 4th place finishes at the past two Northeast Regionals.  He won 26 matches last year.

Payton Geigner
North Central

Payton Geigner enters his final season of collegiate competition looking to become a four time Regional place-winner. Thus far he's had Lower Midwest Regional finishes of 5th-7th-5th, as he'll go for a top 3 placing in '24-'25.  A match shy of placing at Pete Willson last year, he was 6th there in 2023.

Dylan Weaver
Shenandoah

Dylan Weaver enters his final season of competition having came close to NCAA DIII qualification the past two Southeast Regionals with 5th & 4th place finishes respectively.  Winning 29 matches last year he finished as the Cougar Open runner-up & he won Petrofes.

Ryan Riser

5th at the Upper Midwest Regional, 3rd at Pete Willson & a WIAC runner-up, Ryan Riser won 24 matches last season. This included a 15-5 major over qualifier Xavier Preston, and defeated Eddie Simes twice by scores of 8-7 & 4-1 s.v.

Owen McDaniel
Albion

26 wins on the year for Owen McDaniel who finished 5th at the Central Regional.

James Romaine
TCNJ

20 wins on the season for James Romaine, two of which were over Sean Cowan by scores of 15-8 & 6-2. Romaine was 5th at the Mideast Regional.

Desmond McLaughlin
Castleton

24 wins on the season, Desmond McLaughlin won a title at Roger Williams, finished as the Ithaca runner-up & took 5th place at the Northeast Regional.

Eli Crum
Lycoming

26 wins on the season, the one thing Eli Crum seemed to have last year was Khalil Mitchell's #.  He defeated the R12'er twice last season. Once by sticking him in 45 seconds, and another time by tech'ing him 15-0.  Crum finished 5th at the Southeast Regional.

Eddie Williams
Alma

Eddie Williams didn't wrestle much last season, but he wrestled enough to earn himself a 6th place finish at the Central Regional.

Luke Moore
Delaware Valley

25 wins on the year for Luke Moore who placed 7th at the Southeast Regional.

Austin Brass                  John Sumner
Messiah

Here's a good wrestle-off I believe that will take place at Messiah.  Austin Brass won 27 matches last season.  Taking 3rd place finishes at both the Messiah Open & the MAC, he was 8th at the Southeast Regional.  He came within a match of a top 8 showing at Pete Willson.

John Sumner, in the handful of times he did wrestle last season, won the Messiah Open.  He had an impressive 10-7 victory over Sean Cowan.  Although Brass & Sumner did not meet officially last year, in the '22-'23 season, Sumner won a tight 3-2 match.

     Max Grzymala                Jacob DeGuire
    Springfield

Max Grzymala did a nice job filling in for the Pride last season, taking an 8th place finish at the Northeast Regional.  However, I'm almost positive that the starting spot will go back to 2023 NCAA Division III 3rd place All American Jacob DeGuire.

Kenny Sauer
SUNY-Oneonta

20 wins on the year for Kenny Sauer, who took 8th place at the Mideast Regional.

David Cox
Manchester

22 wins on the season, it was 8th place for David Cox at the Central Regional.

Owen Herbst
St Johns

Owen Herbst took 8th place at the Upper Midwest Regional last season.

Anson DeWar
Muhlenberg

Here's a guy to keep your eye on and watch out for this year.  Before his season unfortunately came to an end due to injury 2023 NCAA DIII 8th place All American Anson DeWar was 9-1.  Look for him to once again contend for All American honors.

Ky'ell Roper
Johnson & Wales

14 wins on the season for Ky'ell Roper last season, including a 1:07 fall over Desmond McLaughlin.

Ray Arebalo
Wabash

Although Ray Arebalo came up short of a top 8 finish at the Central Regional last season, he was an NCAA DIII qualifier in 2023.  22 wins on the season, he had some notable victories.  He defeated All American Zeb Gnida 8-3, with a 2-0 win over qualifier Blake Williams & he defeated R12'er Christian Komitas on three occasions by scores of 5-1, 7-4 & 11-3.

Mitchell Reynolds
Olivet

17 wins on the season, Mitchell Reynolds took 5th place at Pete Willson.

David Reinhart
Mount Union

David Reinhart didn't compete much last season, but he competed enough to earn himself a 7th place finish at the prestigious Pete Willson.

Brian Petry
Cornell (IA)

26 wins on the season, Brian Petry finished one match shy of a top 8 showing at Pete Willson.
